CPI Collaboration with AGO on Social Cohesion in Tal Afar
CPI collaborated with the Iraqi NGO “Aid Gate Organization” (AGO), as part of AGOs’ Social Cohesion and Economic Empowerment project, funded by TearFund, to organise various a series of events at the Cordoba Cultural Café in Tal Afar from June to August 2023.
1) Tal Afar Peace Week
This training event took place over 5 days spread between 18 and 29 June 2023. Forty young men and women from the Tal Afar district has participated in this activity, including representatives of local organisations and volunteer teams. The participants in this training were divided into two groups of twenty people each, and the training sessions for these two groups were separate. The training covered conflict transformation, social cohesion, communication methods, designing community initiatives and writing project proposals.
2) Planting Flowers in Tal Afar General Hospital
This initiative, which took place on 10 July 2023, is significant as the hospital garden serves as a meeting place for all visitors and has been neglected since the liberation of Tal Afar from IS.
3) Tour of the orchards of Tal Afar
This initiative consisted of a guided tour to the orchards of Tal Afar on 14 July 2023. The tour was attended by intellectuals, active youth, singers, social media influencers, and aimed to explore the history of these orchards and shed light on them through media coverage. During the tour, traditional music was played, created beautiful paintings, and participants were treated to traditional Tal Afar cuisine, including dishes such as kibbeh, burghul, and dolma.
4) Enhancing the “Books’ Sidewalk”
This event, which took place on 9 August 2023, aimed to enhance the “Books’ Sidewalk” in Tal Afar by transforming it from a mere path into a beautiful and vibrant one. This initiative included cleaning and organising the sidewalk, as well as adding artistic touches and bright colours.
5) Caring for people with special needs
This event took place on 21 August 2023. It included the provision of seats to the Women’s Care Department in Tal Afar and the distribution of brochures highlighting the importance of caring for people with special needs.
