Topic:

This course offers training in ethical, constructive and professional journalism. It explores the role of media and journalists in conflict dynamics, highlighting when and how journalists, and the media more generally, can also play an indirect role in the prevention of violence. Using case studies, this course analyses the possible impact of different styles of journalism and elucidates conflict-sensitive and culturally-sensitive approaches to reporting on conflicts in all media.

Outcomes:

The aim of this training course is to equip participants with:
• Foundational knowledge of peace journalism;
• Practical understanding of the role of journalists and media in conflicts;
• Applied knowledge and practical ideas for conflict-sensitive reporting.

Participants:

Researchers and/or professionals who are interested in journalism, media and communication, conflict transformation and related areas, who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in theoretical and practical approaches to inclusive and participative approaches to ethical, constructive and professional journalism.

Methodology:

This training course includes expert input, group-work and group discussions.
