Mediation Facilitation

Topic:

This course introduces the theoretical and practical requirements for successful facilitation of a mediation process, with a view to transforming conflicts. It aims to build participants’ understanding of the role of mediation facilitators with reference to the possibilities and challenges of dialogue between with civil society actors, political representatives, government officials, religious leaders and others. Drawing on the CPI’s extensive experience of working with diverse parties in different contexts, this course uses real-world cases from the MENA, Sahel and Europe to explore conflict-sensitive and culturally-appropriate approaches to mediation facilitation.

Outcomes:

The aim of this training course is to equip participants with:
• Foundational theoretical and practical understanding of mediation facilitation;
• Practical understanding of the possibilities and challenges of mediation;
• Understanding the nuances of mediation and/or negotiation processes;
• Practical ideas for culturally-appropriate approaches to conflict transformation.

Participants:

Researchers and/or professionals who have an existing background in mediation and/or negotiation and who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in theoretical and practical approaches to conflict-sensitive and culturally-appropriate to mediation facilitation.

This course can be combined with training in Mediation and/or Negotiation.

Methodology:

This training course includes expert input, group-work, case studies and group discussions.
