Meetings on the Law on Missing Persons

CPI organised and participated in several meetings in Erbil and Baghdad, Iraq, from 27 to 29 April 2023 to discuss the Missing Persons Law and the Right to Know the Truth Law in Iraq. A diverse group of government officials, humanitarian organisations and legal experts attended these meetings to engage in a constructive dialogue on the legal framework of these laws. During the meetings in Erbil on 27-28 April 2023 and in Baghdad on 29 April 2023, CPI agreed with the Permanent National Committee for International Humanitarian Law in Iraq, the Iraqi Council of State and the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq on Human Rights and Missing Persons, Mr Zaidan Khalaf, to hold a further meeting in Erbil or Najaf in May to conduct a final review of the Missing Persons Law and the Right to Know the Truth Law before submitting these laws to the Office of the Prime Minister of Iraq.
