The Somali Conflict The Geneva Press Club – Club suisse de la Presse «The Somali Conflict:
What are its causes and how to transcend it?» Key speakers include: Dr. Mohamud Jama Mr. Zakaria Abdi Mr. Abdi Dirshe The direct engagement of Ethiopian forces in Somalia early this year, with the backing of other foreign powers, has worsened the conflict and exacerbated the suffering of the Somali people.
The deteriorating situation in Somalia calls for an urgent action to bring together all Somali protagonists in order to engage in peace talks. The international community, particularly the African Union, the Arab League and the United Nations, has reasserted such a need. With the aim of initiating a reflection on the future of Somalia, the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies of the Cordoba Foundation is organizing a two-day meeting in Geneva, on 20-21 November 2007. During the press conference, the three speakers will address the current situation in Somalia from various perspectives: political, economic, social, humanitarian, human rights. They will also discuss the causes of the conflict and the ways to resolve it and to bring a lasting peace. The press meeting will be followed by a drink. Guy Mettan, Executive Director
