The Somali Conflict: What are its causes and how to transcend it?
The direct engagement of Ethiopian forces in Somalia early this year, with the backing of other foreign powers, has worsened the conflict and exacerbated the suffering of the Somali people. The deteriorating situation in Somalia calls for an urgent action to bring together all Somali protagonists in order to engage in peace talks. The international community, particularly the African Union, the Arab League and the United Nations, has reasserted such a need. This seminar aims at initiating a reflection on the future of Somalia and will address the current situation in this country from various perspectives. The causes of the conflict and the ways to resolve it and to bring a lasting peace will also be discussed.
